On July 16, 2001 we headed over to the coast and up towards Washington.  We wanted to check out about 14 Thousand Trails (TT) preserves that we had not been to yet, 8 of which are in Washington. It was supposed to be almost a three month trip but was cut short with my Dad's hospitalization and passing away.  However we did get to see 90% of what we wanted to and were gone about two months.  These picture hi-lights chronologicaly document our travel north to the Canadian border. Except for the mad rush home and subsequent passing of my Dad, we had a great time and highly recommend the trip for anyone.

OVER TO & UP THE COAST OF CALIFORNIA

This is Soleded TT near Acton, CA. We were pleasantly surprised at how pretty it was.  Lots of really big shade trees everywhere.

Left
A shot of Rancho Oso TT near Santa Barbara

Right|
Lake Minden TT just above Sacramento. The lake is stocked with bass, catfish, and trout depending on the time of year.

ON TO COASTAL NORTHERN CALIFORNIA

This is "Big Foot" country up amongst the coastal redwoods. In fact here he is now trying to cop a feel on Carol !!!

The 50 foot Paul Bunyon and Babe the Blue Ox at the Trees of Mystery in Klamath, CA.
30 years ago the boys were totally in awe at the sight of these guys...
Here Carol is totally in awe of Babes giant cajones...

ON TO THE OREGON COAST

These 3 pics are at Pacific City TT. A fantastic campground.  A short 100 yard walk puts you at the beach.  Tide pools with "creatures" everywhere. Quaint little fishing towns are all around.

ON TO WASHINGTON

Left
Mt. St. Helens is an awesome sight. This was a pic from the closest viewpoint.

Right|
This is only part of the view from Hurricane Ridge on the Olympic Penninsula looking towards the glaciers.

This is Marymere Falls on the Olympic Penninsula.  If youlook close you can see two people standing in the rocks at the bottom.  The wooden bridge leads to the falls and Carol is deciding if she wants to cross it.  She did!

These 3 pix are in the Hoh Rain Forest on the west side of the Olympic Penninsula. Really a bizarre place.

ACROSS TO VICTORIA, BRITISH COLUMBIA

Twenty miles across from Port Angeles is Victoria, B.C. Arriving at the dock you're right by the famous Empress Hotel and the Parliament building.  The rest of the city is right there too. We took a city tour on the double-decker buses that GreyLine has in front of the Empress.
Below, Carol and I are finishing lunch on the dock just below the Empress.

THE BOUCHART GARDENS TOUR
Just north of Victoria in B.C.

No, these pix aren't touched-up, it really looks like this.  The Butchart Gardens are about the most fantastic thing we've ever seen. It takes several hours to walk around the whole thing. There's no words to describe it, so just soak in the pictures. These are just a portion of all the pix I took.

ON TO THE NORTH CASCADES AND NORTHEASTERN WASHINGTON

The North Cascades are beautiful. Heck the whole place is great.  Too wet for us to live in but sure great to visit in the summer....

This is Mt. Vernon TT
All the Thousand Trail campgrounds are really nice up here.

Left, is up by Mt. Baker viewpoint, but the clouds were in heavy that day so we couldn't see Mt. Baker.

Right, is Nooksack falls, on the drive up to Mt. Baker viewpoint. I was so close I had to take it in two pictures.

Central Washington on the east slope of the Cascades
The town of Leavenworth with a Bavarian flair

It was another great trip. We highly recommend it!
